At SSP, we are a standard and approved supplier to many military and commercial shipbuilding companies, their suppliers, and their customers. Northrup-Grumman, General Dynamics, and Marinette Marine are among those who’ve endorsed our rigorous quality control program.
In the shipbuilding and offshore marine markets, two of the primary challenges faced are high vibration levels and corrosion associated with saltwater exposure. The former can negatively impact ship engines, while the latter can lead to corrosion in various ship components. Our expert team designs and builds high-quality instrumentation products that can withstand these demanding conditions, so industry professionals can trust their systems to operate and perform how and when they need them.
Shipbuilding & Offshore Marine Applications Served
Our instrumentation products find use in a range of devices and systems throughout the shipbuilding and offshore marine markets. Typical applications include:
-
Instrument Racks and Panels
-
Hydraulics – power and control
-
Pneumatics – service air, signal air, breathing air
-
Fuel systems
Shipbuilding & Offshore Marine Fittings, Valves, & Other Instrumentation at SSP
We maintain an extensive selection of instrumentation components for shipbuilding and offshore marine applications, including:
Fittings
-
Tube fittings. Mechanical Grip-Type Tube Fittings connect without welding or special tooling. While they typically come in stainless steel, they can be made from other materials if needed. Instrumentation tube fittings are available in three designs that can intermix and interchange with other legacy tube fitting brands. Industrial tube fittings are available in six types to suit different industry requirements and restrictions.
-
Weld Fittings and Adapters. When Codes and Specifications call for welded assemblies, SSP tube socket weld fittings meet the need. When welded fluid systems must transition to flexible hose, SSP’s broad range of specialty adapters ensure the right connection is available.
-
Pipe fittings. We offer stainless steel pipe fittings for instrumentation and industrial applications. NPT, BSPT, SAE, and BSPP straight threaded fittings are available in sizes ranging from 1/16 to 2 in.
-
Hose fittings. We offer field-attachable hose fittings engineered to facilitate repair and replacement operations in the field. We regularly test these products to ensure they comply with industry specifications and standards.
Valves
-
Needle valves. We offer stainless steel needle valves suitable for use in instrumentation, controls, testing, laboratory, and many other applications. They are available with MAWP ranging from 5,000 psig to 10,000 psig, depending on the model.
-
Ball valves. We offer stainless steel ball valves suitable for use in instrumentation, CNG, control systems, utilities, and countless other applications. They are available with MAWP ranging from 3,000 psig to 10,000 psig, depending on the model. We can also provide assembled automated valve packages with SSP EB, FB, and TB series ball valves.
-
Bleed valves. SSP bleed valves are suitable for use on instrumentation devices (e.g., gauge valves or multi-valve manifolds). They are available with working pressures up to 10,000 psig.
Shipbuilding & Offshore Marine Materials
Our shipbuilding and offshore marine products can be made from a variety of materials depending on the particular requirements and restrictions of the intended application. We offer options for standard and specialty alloys.
Standard Alloys
-
Stainless steel. Stainless steel is ideal for many offshore applications because it is highly resistant to corrosion and thermal damage/degradation. Additionally, it is easy to form and fabricate into various components.
-
Carbon steel. Carbon steel is generally characterized by its exceptional strength and hardness. However, its properties can vary with different compositions and treatments. SSP Fittings in Carbon Steel are specially plated to provide exceptional corrosion resistance.
Special Alloys
-
Monel (Alloy 400). Monel is a nickel-copper alloy that is highly resistant to corrosion and strong and durable across a wide temperature range.
-
Hastelloy (Alloy C-276). Hastelloy is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy that is commonly used in aggressive chemical environments due to its excellent corrosion resistance.
